What I loved about this book was partially the balance between themes such as power, legacy, what it means to protect the people (and magic) you love, with genuinely rich and immersive world building. The apothecary details alone were enough to make me wonder if I should start planning my garden for next year around herbs I could make into tinctures just for fun; some of these details made the magic feel tactile and lived-in.
